This September, students, teachers, and partners gathered in Kaunas, Lithuania, for a memorable DaDOM student training week. Hosted by the Karalius Mindaugas Vocational Training Centre, the programme offered hands-on experiences, cultural exchanges, and inspiring insights into the use of music in care practices.
The week kicked off with a warm welcome at the school, followed by a tour and icebreaker activities that helped participants connect. Over the next few days, students participated in interactive sessions at care organisations, gaining firsthand experience of how music can enhance care. As one student noted, “Music connects people, even when you don’t speak the same language.”
On Wednesday, the programme featured an international conference, providing a platform to share best practices and the impact of music in care. Field trips later that day offered a chance to explore the cultural side of Kaunas. The week concluded with a reflection session where students shared their most valuable lessons. One participant remarked, “I learned how to communicate without speaking and saw how powerful music can be.”
While the programme was filled with learning opportunities, students also had time to build friendships. Some found language barriers challenging but still appreciated the chance to connect with peers from different countries. As one student shared, “It was challenging to start a conversation, but in the end, we worked together and got along well.”
